In recent years, our society has evolved from a typographic society steeped in oral tradition to a televisual, information society.
What does this fact mean for us as illusionists?
1. A great demand us placed on us to keep up with technology.
2. Audiences have seen many illusionists in the recent past.
3. Audiences hold schemas or stereotypes of magicians.
4. Attention spans are diminished.
5. People’s cannot easily decode complex speech and text.
These are challenges we as illusionists experience as we continue to entertain. Simply know that technology is changing at an exponential rate.
As illusionists, we should be on the cutting edge in terms of understanding our current society and from there how to effectively connect with our audience. We should watch the popular television programs and keep up with pop culture. Doing this will influence the way you present routines, providing your audience something they can relate to.
Ultimately, our connection with the audience is the most vital aspect of performing magic. They are, after all, part of the journey into a world of magic. We are their hosts.
